The authorities have reported a violent incident at the half-open prison in Givenich on Wednesday, which left a prison guard in intensive care after being attacked by an inmate.

The altercation began when the prisoner, who refused to follow instructions, turned violent and injured several officers.

The Association of Prison Officers confirmed the severity of the attack and highlighted a concerning trend of similar incidents: in recent weeks, several detention centres have reported cases of physical assaults on guards.
