The spirit of the holiday season arrived in full force on Friday as Luxembourg City's Christmas market opened its doors, launching a month of festive fun and activities across the capital.

A highlight of the season for residents of the capital and visitors from across the country, the Luxembourg City Christmas market officially opened on Friday, kicking off the 2024 edition of "Winterlights".

Don't fret if you missed the opening festivities–the market will remain open until 1 January. As per tradition, Luxembourg City Council has decorated its streets to immerse visitors in a "fairytale atmosphere" over the coming weeks.

One of the market's standout features is its variety of gathering spots, offering something for everyone. From stalls and merry-go-rounds to cosy places for refreshments, visitors can enjoy hot and cold drinks alongside sweet and savoury treats.

Key locations for the Christmas market include some of the capital's most beloved sites: Place d'Armes, Place de la Constitution, Place de Paris, Place Guillaume II, and Kinnekswiss. The Kinnekswiss stands out with its ice-skating rink, situated in the heart of one of Luxembourg City's largest parks.

But the fun doesn't end there. The city has planned a diverse programme of concerts, exhibitions, film screenings, dance performances, and plays, ensuring entertainment for all ages. Museums and the Cinémathèque are also joining in, offering special events during the season.

For younger visitors, a must-see event is Saint Nicholas' tour of the city on 1 December. To explore the full programme, which spans approximately 40 pages, visit the Luxembourg City's official website.
