The Luxembourg City municipal council unanimously approved the budgets for major renovations and expansions of the Conservatoire and the Cinémathèque during Monday's session.
The Cinémathèque, located on Place du Théâtre, will undergo a comprehensive renovation with a budget of €43.5 million.
The plans include adding a second, larger screening room with 177 seats, creating an educational workshop, and integrating a brasserie into the facility.
Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2025 and is expected to last until February 2029.
For the Conservatoire, the focus is on refurbishing its large auditorium. The €11-million-project involves replacing seats and carpets, refreshing parquet floors, acoustic panels, and metal structures, and upgrading technical facilities.
A new, open lighting and director's booth will be installed, alongside a closed projection area at the back of the room. Work is set to start in April 2025 and is projected to be completed by November 2026.
