In an episode of the French TV show 'Tout le mode veut prendre sa place' that aired on 4 October 2024, the Luxembourgish stand-up comedian Micas Carvalho (34) caused a stir on social media by speaking Luxembourgish to the hosts.
Tout le monde veut prendre sa place (TLMVPSP) is a French TV staple that has been challenging its contestants to compete in general knowledge since 2006. Although Carvalho didn't win a prize, he was enthusiastic about showcasing his homeland. "Yes, I spoke Luxembourgish on French television!" the comedian proudly recounts.
Carvalho made it halfway through the competition before being eliminated in a tie-breaker with a French candidate. "The reigning champion had to pick between us, and she chose the other candidate. Some people think I was eliminated because I'm Luxembourgish, but if I were on Luxembourgish TV, I would probably pick a Luxembourger, too," he explains.
While filming the episode on 17 June 2023 at the France 2 studios in La Plaine Saint-Denis, Carvalho shared his behind-the-scenes experience on social media. "The whole experience was superb, and it definitely makes me want to participate again. It's almost addictive! My main goal was to make people across the border discover Luxembourg."
It wasn't the first time Carvalho starred on TV, he had already participated in the Brazilian show 'Famosos da Internet' in 2017, where he proposed to his partner on air. "I ended up winning the contest and the clip went viral on Youtube." He also added that he finds it fascinating to compare the production processes between different countries.
Back in Luxembourg, Micas Carvalho works as a content creator and organises the 'Micas Comedy Spot' at Zulu Bar in Clausen, alongside occasional performances at Casino 2000 and Aalt Stadhaus in Differdange.
He is also passionate about psycho-social education, having studied educational psychology across various countries, including Australia, Brazil, France, Portugal, and Belgium. As a result, he developed six training programs to support young Luxembourgers and their parents in understanding the world of influencers. "Nowadays, every young person wants to become a YouTuber," he notes.
One thing is certain: Carvalho has a knack for getting people talking.
