This allocation represents close to 10% of the entire national budget and reflects a priority on expanding and modernising police services, Minister of the Interior Léon Gloden said on Wednesday.
The budget outlines plans to recruit over 200 new police officers next year as part of a broad strategy to strengthen law enforcement.
In addition, the ministry has earmarked nearly €8 million for new police vehicles, and over €42 million to upgrade around 500 officers from grade C1 to B1, with reclassification costs expected to exceed €2 million. The Luxembourg police force is structured into ranks, with A being the most senior and experienced.
Beyond personnel and equipment, several police stations, including those in Wiltz and Esch, are scheduled for renovations or expansions. These construction projects will be funded through the Ministry of Public Works.
Minister Gloden presented these plans to the parliamentary committee on Wednesday.
The committee also reviewed the projected €2.7 million expenditure for security services at refugee reception centres, a cost which represents over half of the total budget allocated for managing these facilities.
