"Wanteraktioun", an annual initiative in Luxembourg that provides free food and shelter to the homeless over the winter months, officially starts on Friday.

Friday, 15 November, marks the start of "Wanteraktioun" ("Winter Action") in Luxembourg. The initiative, which offers a hot meal and shelter to the homeless over the winter months, runs every year between 15 November and 15 April.

On Monday, MPs of the Parliamentary Committee for Family Affairs joined Minister for Family Affairs Max Hahn on a tour of the premises.

Since the number of people seeking shelter at Wanteraktioun continues to increase, the number of beds has been raised to 300 for the 2024/2025 campaign. The aim of Wanteraktioun is to ensure that every homeless person is assigned a bed.

Last winter, a total of 2,250 people registered, 1,640 of whom were new enrolments. Overall, around 1,300 people came from third countries, 800 from the EU, and 150 from Luxembourg.

To meet the increased demand, volunteers set up additional heated tents from the Luxembourg army during the last campaign.
