Luxembourg is set to impose stricter penalties for insults and assaults against public transport staff, extending protections similar to those for police officers.
Insults and assaults against bus drivers and train conductors will soon carry stricter penalties in Luxembourg.
New sanctions will be added to the Criminal Code, aligning punishments for offences against public transport staff with those already in place for police and municipal officers.
These cases will fall under Article 269, which addresses insults to government officials and provides for fines up to €2,000 and prison sentences of up to one month.
This protection will apply to public transport staff on buses, trams, and trains, covering verbal insults, threatening gestures, physical assaults, and offensive drawings or texts.
Additionally, Luxembourg plans to introduce body cameras for police officers starting in 2025.
Stricter penalties are also being developed for hit-and-run offences, as announced by Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden.
