A vehicle crashed into and damaged a Post distribution unit in Belvaux on Saturday night, leaving many residents without internet access or mobile phone service.
Post confirmed the incident but was unable to specify how many people or households were affected, nor provide a clear timeline for repairs. While the company expressed hope that the issue could be resolved on Sunday, it offered no guarantees.
An RTL reader contacted the newsroom to draw attention to the situation, criticising the lack of communication from Post. According to the reader, Post stated at around 9am that work was underway. However, when services were still down at 5pm, the reader was informed that repairs would only take place on Monday and could even extend into Tuesday, potentially leaving some users without connectivity for up to four days.
The reader also questioned why customers had not been informed about the outage in advance, pointing out that elderly people without mobile phones could be placed in a vulnerable situation by such disruptions. In response to RTL’s enquiry, Post explained that it issues public communications only in cases of “critical incidents” affecting the country on a national scale. In this instance, the outage was limited to Belvaux.
