Luxembourg lawmaker Christophe Hansen has been unofficially confirmed as the EU's new Agriculture and Food Commissioner, receiving a two-thirds majority following broad support across political groups.

News broke shortly before midnight on Monday that Christophe Hansen of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) has been confirmed as the EU's new Commissioner for Agriculture and Food. The hearing lasted for over three hours, but in the end the Luxembourg lawmaker received the two-thirds majority needed to be confirmed.

According to media reports, Hansen received ubiquitous support from across the political landscape, with the EPP, the socialists, the liberals, the greens, and the conservatives voting in his favour.

However, the confirmation will only be made official once all 26 commissioners have been vetted.
