The Luxembourg Court of Appeal has sentenced a man to 22 years in prison, with 11 years suspended, for a fatal stabbing in Dudelange in 2022, reducing the original sentence by one year.

The Luxembourg Court of Appeal has delivered its verdict in the case of a fatal stabbing that occurred on 9 April 2022, in Dudelange.

The incident involved a 38-year-old man who was killed following an argument in the defendant's apartment.

According to court records, after a night out, the victim attempted to steal valuable items from the defendant's residence. In response, the defendant used a large kitchen knife to stab the victim in the neck, resulting in the victim's death at the scene.

Throughout the legal proceedings, the defendant claimed that the stabbing was accidental. However, the Court of Appeal has now sentenced him to 22 years of imprisonment, with 11 years suspended. Of the suspended years, five are subject to specific conditions.

This decision modifies the initial sentence handed down by the lower court, which was 23 years of imprisonment. The prosecution had originally sought a 25-year sentence.
