Students in Luxembourg may soon benefit from enhanced financial support, following an agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education and the country's student unions.

The Ministry of Higher Education has announced plans to improve financial support for students.

On Thursday, Minister for Higher Education Stéphanie Obertin signed an agreement in principle with the Umbrella Organisation of Luxembourg Student Unions (ACEL), outlining several financial improvements.

Upon inquiry, the Ministry confirmed to our colleagues from RTL.lu that from the academic year 2026/2027, each new wage indexation will be automatically factored into the calculation of grants for the following semester.

Among the planned changes, a €250 success bonus will be introduced for students who complete their studies on time. The mobility grant is set to increase by 5%, reaching €3,200, and the interest rate on student loans will be reduced from 2% to 1.8%.

These changes will now need to be formalised in a draft bill by the Ministry.

For the academic year 2023/24, the state allocated €170 million in grants and over €120 million in loans to support students financially.
