
Luxembourg's primary schools have seen a 10% increase in enrolment over the past six years, with nearly 62,500 students starting the new school year.
As the new school year begins in Luxembourg, nearly 62,500 children are enrolled in primary schools, marking a 10% increase compared to six years ago.
The vast majority, 90%, are attending public schools.
In secondary education, private schools now account for nearly 20% of all enrolments. Around 53,000 students have registered for secondary school this year, with Lycée Technique du Centre (LTC) in Limpertsberg being the largest by enrolment.
Primary education is supported by approximately 5,600 full-time teachers and around 800 part-time staff. Women make up 81% of the teaching workforce, and 87% of teachers are civil servants.
In secondary education, civil servants represent two-thirds of all teachers. Luxembourg currently employs 4,039 secondary school teachers, with women comprising 55% of the workforce.

As of 31 December 2023, about 49,000 places were available in state-affiliated reception and education facilities, a 7% increase compared to the previous year. An additional 17,500 places were available in non-state-affiliated structures, reflecting a 4.4% rise from the previous year.
