A Luxembourg resident stranded in Dubai amid flight cancellations and regional unrest says he is frightened and uncertain about when he and his wife will be able to return home, as explosions continue to be heard and all departures have been suspended.
“We hope that we can still get away from here this afternoon.”
Explosions have also been heard repeatedly in Dubai since Saturday. RTL spoke to a Luxembourgish resident on the ground.

A Luxembourg resident currently in Dubai with his wife has described a tense and uncertain situation, as flight cancellations and regional instability continue to disrupt travel.

Speaking from the artificial island of The Palm, he said there had been repeated loud blasts in the area and described the atmosphere as chaotic. He explained that they had already declared their stay abroad on guichet.lu and had been advised not to leave their hotel for the time being.

Visibly shaken by the situation, he said it remained unclear whether they would be allowed to leave Dubai, adding that although their flight scheduled for 3.40pm had not yet been cancelled at the time of the interview, most other flights had already been called off, and access to the airport was effectively impossible.

“We really hope we can still leave this afternoon”, he said, noting that there had been another blast around half an hour earlier. “We’re a bit scared at the moment”, he said as his voice trembled, appearing close to tears as he described the uncertainty.

The interview was recorded at 6.30am Luxembourg time, equivalent to 9.30am in Dubai. The man later informed RTL that all flights scheduled for the day had since been cancelled and that they had been contacted by Luxembourg’s Foreign Ministry.

The couple had travelled to Dubai with Emirates.
