Already at its lowest since the beginning of the year, the price of a litre of diesel will fall below €1.40 on Friday night into Saturday.
While this might be good news before the weekend, it risks reviving petrol tourism in Luxembourg in earnest from this Saturday – as motorists haven't seen fuel prices this low in Luxembourg for ages.
A litre of diesel will be 1.7 cents cheaper from midnight this Saturday and will cost €1.394 at the pump in Luxembourg; a record low price for this fuel in 2024.
In fact, we have to go back to 13 May 2023 to find a similar price: a litre of diesel was sold for €1.39 on that date.
Already at its lowest this year, the price of SP95 fell earlier this week, during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, to below the €1.50 mark. It has since been displayed at €1.47. You have to go back to 30 December 2023 to find it one cent cheaper.
The price of SP98 remains unchanged at €1.56. This is also its lowest price since January 2022.
The price of 10 ppm heating oil will also drop by 2.3 cents overnight: a litre will be sold for €0.855 starting Saturday morning.
Oil at its lowest in almost a year and a half
Brent oil sank on Friday to its lowest level since March 2023, weighed down by fears about the global economy and demand, completely overshadowing the decision by OPEC+ exporting countries to postpone an increase in production.
At around 16:10 GMT (18:10 in Paris), the price of a barrel of North Sea Brent fell by 2.23% to 71.07 dollars, while its American equivalent, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) lost 2.26% to 67.59 dollars per barrel.
