A series of incidents, including a fire caused by a lightning strike in Fischbach, marked a tumultuous Thursday night in Luxembourg as thunderstorms swept across the region.

On Thursday, Luxembourg experienced intense thunderstorms while under a yellow weather alert. The eastern region of the country was particularly affected, with heavy rainfall, hail, and numerous lightning strikes.

In Fischbach, lightning struck Rue Grande-Duchesse Charlotte around midnight, igniting a fire. Firefighters quickly intervened, and no injuries were reported. According to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), this is the only reported incident linked to the thunderstorms.

Other incidents

Earlier in the evening, a car crashed into a wall in Echternach. The accident occurred on Rue d'Osweiler and left one person injured. Emergency services, including the Echternach fire brigade and ambulance, responded to the scene.

Shortly before 7pm, a collision between a car and a cyclist in Luxembourg City resulted in another injury. The accident took place on Boulevard Roosevelt in the Ville-Haute neighbourhood. Ambulance and fire brigade teams were despatched to assist.

Later that night, after 9pm, a car crashed into a tree on the CR306 near Grosbous, in the direction of Vichten. No one was injured. Two fire brigade vehicles and an ambulance were summoned to the scene.
