On Thursday, police patrols caught 25 motorists using their mobile phones while driving within a 90 minute period.
Police conducted the operation in Mersch from 3.30pm to 5pm on Thursday.
The 25 motorists were issued with €250 fines for using their mobiles while at the wheel. They also had 4 points deducted from their driving licences.
However, these were not the only driving infractions noted by officers during the checks. In 10 cases, either the driver or passenger failed to wear a seatbelt. Two drivers could not provide proof of up to date technical checks for their vehicles, while another motorist was caught wearing headphones while driving.
Police issued additional fines for unsanctioned vehicle modifications, which meant the car did not have the correct tyres.
Overturned vehicle
On Thursday evening, a car overturned on the road between Burden and Bourscheid. Police arrived on the scene to find two people with minor injuries. The driver refused to conduct a breathalyser test, so officers issued them with a provisional driving ban. Additional checks revealed this was not the first ban for this particular driver.
