Prosecutor General Martine Solovieff has been granted permission to retire effective 1 February 2025, nine months before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 68.

Solovieff has served in the judiciary for nearly four decades. She transitioned from the Luxembourg City public prosecutor's office to the general public prosecutor's office at the Upper Court in 1999. In 2015, she succeeded Roby Biever as Prosecutor General.

The task of finding her successor falls to the newly established National Justice Council, which is currently chaired by Solovieff. Consequently, a new president for the council will also need to be appointed.

In Luxembourg, the Prosecutor General is supported by two deputies, as well as the First Advocates-General and Advocates-General.
