The police have reported five cases of drink driving since Friday evening across the Grand Duchy.

At around 1 am, a person was noticed by the police in Esch because of his conspicuous driving behaviour. The person was stopped and tested positive for alcohol, which resulted in his driving licence being confiscated.

A similar situation was reported in Niederkorn at 3 am, where another driver attracted negative attention because he was driving too fast. He was stopped by the police shortly afterwards. During the check, the driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, but given he refused to take an alcohol test, his driving licence was confiscated.

An hour later, a driver travelling at high speed in Stadtbredimus was caught up in a traffic check. When he was signalled to stop, he drove on after braking briefly and drove just past the police in the opposite lane. He then fled at high speed in the direction of Remich, but was stopped after a short chase. Here, too, the test was positive and the driver's licence was confiscated.

Shortly after 4 am, a driver lost control of his car between Flaxweiler and Dreiborn and crashed into the ramp, dragging a road sign with him. His alcohol test was positive and his driving licence was also confiscated.

A driver was travelling too fast and in zigzag on Route de Hollerich in Luxembourg City at around 4 am. After the test was positive and the driving licence was confiscated, the officer noticed that this was a repeat offender. The public prosecutor's office has been informed which in turn ordered the seizure of his car.
