The Water Management Authority announced on Wednesday that swimming is currently prohibited in the upper part of Weiswampach Lake due to the detection of blue-green algae.

However, swimming remains permitted in the lower part of Weiswampach Lake. Additionally, swimming is allowed in designated areas of the Upper Sûre Lake, the Remerschen Lakes, and the Echternach Lake.

Blue algae causes health risks because certain types of cyanobacteria, like the ones in blue algae, can produce toxins that affect humans and animals. Contact, ingestion or inhalation of the cyanobacteria can lead to headaches, skin irritation, burns or nausea. If you experience any of those symptoms after swimming, contact your GP.

It is recommended to avoid fishing, contact with the water, water sports and don't allow pets to drink the water.
