Since 2018, 25 churches have been consecrated in the country. Of these, 5 were part of the church fund.
Four churches have been taken over by their respective municipalities in Habscht, Junglinster, Reckange-sur-Mess, and Vallée de l'Ernz. The future ownership of one church remains undecided, while the other 20 are now under municipal control.
Currently, around 220 churches and chapels are protected as monuments. Additionally, there are 40 privately-owned small chapels that are also under monument protection.
In total, the country is home to nearly 500 churches, none of which are state-owned.
These details were provided by PM Luc Frieden, as well as ministers Eric Thill and Léon Gloden in response to a parliamentary question by LSAP deputy Dan Biancalana.
