Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) is sending three members of its Humanitarian Intervention Team (HIT) to assist in the region.

The deployment comes in response to an international request from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

A member of the HIT team, as part of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC), has been despatched to the Caribbean to evaluate the need for international aid and to coordinate relief efforts on the ground.

Additionally, two other HIT members are being sent to Grenada and the island group of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Their mission is to restore communication capabilities using the mobile satellite telecommunication platform emergency.lu, and to support the UNDAC team with logistical and technical assistance.
