Gilles Baum, president of the Democratic Party's (DP) parliamentary group, emphasised the party's commitment to a socio-liberal approach, positioning itself "in the middle of society."
In a press conference on Tuesday ahead of the summer recess, Baum highlighted the need for Luxembourg to remain competitive to finance essential investments while supporting the most vulnerable citizens.
He defended the DP's track record in the previous coalition government, citing measures taken to mitigate rising energy prices. He also supported the initial steps of the new government with the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), such as adjusting the tax scale for inflation and increasing aid for lower incomes.
Baum acknowledged the substantial work that remains, including a major tax reform focusing on individualisation.
He reiterated the DP's opposition to overly restrictive policies, noting that people are more likely to embrace climate neutrality if they receive proper support. He assured that all measures would be reviewed continually.
Addressing housing issues, Baum dismissed claims that the government was favouring property developers. He emphasised that, financially, more funds are allocated for public construction and direct support for citizens.
