French nationals in Luxembourg will vote this Sunday at Luxexpo to choose between outgoing 'Macronist' MP Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade and first-round leader Cécilia Gondard of the Nouveau Front Populaire.

From 8am to 6pm, French nationals living in Luxembourg are heading to the polls at Luxexpo in Kirchberg to vote in the second round of the French parliamentary elections. In the first round, a remarkable 50.8% of the 29,725 registered French voters in Luxembourg participated, marking a record turnout. Across the Benelux countries, the overall turnout was 47.64%.

In Luxembourg, a significant 63.8% of French voters opted to cast their ballots online, while 36.2% chose to vote in person at Luxexpo.

The online voting period for this second round has already concluded, having taken place from Wednesday lunchtime to Thursday evening. Despite the relatively short voting window, 459,539 French citizens abroad voted electronically - this represents 44,000 more people than in the first round. This increase raises the question: could the second round see an even higher overall turnout?

Benelux rejects the RN, leading to a duel between the NFP and Ensemble!

This Sunday, July 7, one big question hovers above everyone's head: will the far right win the absolute majority? And of course, who will enter the National Assembly? On Friday, several polls showed a tightening race between the three blocs: the far-right Rassemblement National (RN) and its allies, the left-wing Nouveau Front Populaire (NFP), and the centre-right which is President Emmanuel Macron's camp.

While French nationals living in the Benelux countries are closely watching the events unfolding in mainland France, they have already rejected the RN candidate Charlotte Beaufils in the first round. She garnered only 9.04% of the vote in the 4th constituency for French residents overseas. In Luxembourg, although the RN candidate gained some ground, she still lagged significantly behind her Ensemble and NFP rivals.

In the Benelux countries, the second round features a face-off between two candidates: the 38-year-old incumbent MP and established 'Macronist', Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade (Ensemble!), and the 44-year-old Socialist Cécilia Gondard (NFP). Anglade, a graduate in European affairs and history, has been in office since 2017, while Gondard is a political adviser on the Assembly of French Citizens Abroad.

This duel mirrors the 2022 elections, but this time Cécilia Gondard has a slight lead. In the Benelux constituency, she edged out Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade in the first round, securing 37.45% of the vote compared to Anglade's 35.46%. The outcome will depend on the transfer of votes from those who supported RN (9.04%), The Republicans (6.18%), Miscellaneous Centre (5.80%), and others, as well as the overall turnout.

In Luxembourg, the French voters clearly favored Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade (46.55% of the vote), placing Cécilia Gondard in second place (21.32%) in the first round.
