Amid criticism from social workers about inadequate support for the homeless and those with addiction problems, Minister for Family Affairs Max Hahn has pledged to open more small-scale facilities across Luxembourg.
In an interview with our colleagues from RTL.lu, Minister for Family Affairs Max Hahn expressed sympathy for the sector's concerns. He expressed his commitment to opening more facilities, particularly smaller ones with around ten beds, not just in the capital. Smaller structures enable more effective social work, Hahn said.
Hahn acknowledged the rising demand for such services and the growing awareness of the issue and assured that daily efforts are made to improve conditions on the ground. He cited the recent openings of two new facilities in Hollerich and Berbourg as examples, and pledged that more would follow.
Hahn's comments come in the wake of an anonymous letter published on Wednesday, in which a group of Luxembourg social workers criticised the insufficient support for homeless individuals and those with addiction problems.
The Minister called on municipalities to assist this initiative by offering vacant premises for use. "Any contribution is welcome," Hahn emphasised, adding, "The more people talk about the subject, the easier it is for me to find outside support."
