Luxembourg's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Xavier Bettel, and Minister for Digitalisation and Research, Stéphanie Obertin, strengthened ties with South Korea by inaugurating Luxembourg's embassy in Seoul.

Luxembourg's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Xavier Bettel, and Minister for Digitalisation and Research, Stéphanie Obertin, officially opened the Luxembourg embassy in Seoul on Wednesday. This event took place in the context of their ongoing working visit to South Korea.

During the inauguration, it was also announced that South Korea plans to open an embassy in Luxembourg. The Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted these developments in a press release on Wednesday morning, emphasising the "close friendship" between the two countries.

In addition to the embassy opening, the ministers attended the launch of the exhibition "Luxembourg's Volunteers in the Korean War," curated by the National Museum of Military History in Diekirch. The exhibition, held at the War Memorial in Seoul, will run throughout July, August, and September. It commemorates the 85 Luxembourg soldiers who fought alongside South Korean forces against North Korea in the early 1950s. Of these volunteers, 16 were wounded and two lst their lives. The press release noted that "this was the only Luxembourg military intervention after 1945 during which Luxembourg sent soldiers to the front."

Following these events, the remainder of the ministers' visit will focus on economic and research collaborations between Luxembourg and South Korea.
