The municipality held an event at the Grand Théâtre on Thursday evening to present the capital's new mobility plan.
The new strategy document uses a number of calculations to predict how mobility will develop in Luxembourg's capital over the coming years.
Alderman Patrick Goldschmidt, in charge of the city's mobility, said there was one clear observation to be made:
"Our city is already saturated with private transport. We are expecting the city's growth to continue, with jobs to increase by around 30% by 2035. The population is likely to grow by 47-50%, which will increase the traffic."
"Traffic cannot be solved with private transport, we've hit our limit, so we need to look at public transport. On that basis, we need high-performance options for public transport."
This could refer to the bus or tram networks, or a combination of the two. The goal is to ensure 51% of journeys in the capital are made via public transport.
Other aspects of the mobility plan include parking spaces, the cycling network or electric mobility.
