A number of people fell victim to pickpockets during Saturday's National Day celebrations in Luxembourg City, say police.

Luxembourg City police received several reports of theft over the weekend.

An establishment in the Grund said that several customers had fallen victim to a pickpocket, noticing that items had been taken from their bags. The woman responsible was caught on Place de la Gare and a number of the stolen items were returned to their original owners.

On Sunday afternoon, a person was stopped by two men on Rue Pierre d'Aspelt, as they struck up a conversation regarding catching a lift in the victim's car. One of the men grabbed the victim by the arm and left him with a minor injury; the victim later realised that his watch had been stolen during the incident.

A similar incident occurred on Rue de la Boucherie on Sunday, where a man approached the victim and grabbed his watch after a brief conversation. The victim tried to run after the thief but suffered minor injuries in the process.

Police launched investigations into both incidents.

Attempted burglary in Dudelange and Bonnevoie

Two suspected burglars attempted to break into a residence on Rue Lentz, Dudelange, on Sunday evening, but were caught by a resident. They attempted to flee the scene but were later caught by police.

A café in Bonnevoie was targeted by thieves overnight; however, the would-be burglars failed to gain access to the premises on Rue Pierre Krier. Police launched an investigation into the matter.
