A disturbing wave of animal cruelty has swept over northern Luxembourg, where at least three cats have been brutally attacked and mutilated in recent weeks.

RTL received a distressing picture from a woman in Drauffelt, which shows one of her cats with its hind legs cut off. On Sunday morning, the cat appeared to be fine, but by the afternoon, the woman found it lying in a puddle of blood. She immediately took the cat to the vet, who determined that the only option was to put it down. The vet confirmed that the cat's limbs had been deliberately cut off, prompting the woman to file a complaint with the police.

After posting the photo on Facebook, two more women came forward, reporting that their cats had been attacked in a similar manner. In Drauffelt, another cat had one leg cut off,  but was saved by a veterinarian. In Eschweiler, a cat suffered even worse, with three legs cut off and a complaint also filed in this case. The owners have no idea who might be responsible for these attacks.

Meanwhile, the police have stated that, so far, they are not aware of any such complaints.

Streak of animal torture across the country

Recently, there have been other incidents of animal cruelty in different locations. At the end of May, a goat was killed in Mersch. The animal had its head and legs cut off, its internal organs removed, and its skin stripped. The goat was then hung by ropes in the stable and left to bleed out. The police have called for anyone who has seen anything suspicious to contact the Mersch police station.

On 25 May, two dead sheep were found between Nelcheswee and Montée du Herrenberg in Diekirch. To elucidate this case, the police are now seeking witnesses. Anyone who has seen suspicious activities is asked to contact the Diekirch-Vianden police station at the phone number 244 80 1000 or via email.

Additionally, in February, the miniature zebu Simba, who had been missing for a while, was found dead. The attacker had slashed the animal's throat and ears.
