After the Ministry of Health moved to a new location in Hamm, the former headquarters of RTL were slated for conversion into a cultural site.
These plans were presented by the previous government in July 2023. At that time, the presence of asbestos was unknown. However, Minister for Public Works Yuriko Backes assured that the discovery will not affect the project.
The hazardous material was found in multiple locations and various forms, including asbestos-based paint on the walls of the small studio and in the cellar.
Minister Backes emphasised that former workers at Villa Louvigny were not exposed to health risks, as they did not come into direct contact with the asbestos. Currently, decontamination efforts are underway at the site.
Minister for Public Works Yuriko Backes confirmed the presence of asbestos at Villa Louvigny in response to a parliamentary question from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP).
