Flavio Becca has rejected the ruling delivered by the Court of Cassation in the so-called ‘watches’ case. In a statement released to the press, the businessman announced his intention to continue his legal battle against the Luxembourg State by initiating three separate actions for breach of European law.

Firstly, a complaint for failure to fulfil obligations has been filed with the European Commission, citing the State’s failure to clarify preliminary questions requested by Becca from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

Secondly, Becca has submitted an application to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), claiming that his trial was unfair.

Lastly, an action for damages has been initiated at the Luxembourg City District Court against the Luxembourg State. Becca has reiterated his request for the Luxembourg courts to refer the matter to the CJEU.

In December 2023, Luxembourg’s Court of Cassation upheld Flavio Becca’s conviction for money laundering. This followed a July 2022 ruling by the Court of Appeal, which sentenced Becca to a twelve-month suspended prison sentence, a €250,000 fine, and the confiscation of 842 luxury watches for “misuse of corporate assets.”

Approximately 150 of these watches are set to be auctioned off next week, with an estimated value of €18 million at the time of the trial.
