The police carried out extensive roadside checks in south-west Luxembourg on Friday afternoon and night.

The first team of traffic police was stationed on the A13 near Bascharage in the late afternoon. The team particularly kept an eye out for distracted driving. A total of 36 motorists were issued with a €250 warning (and four points on their driving licence) for using a mobile phone at the wheel.

During the night of Friday to Saturday, the police set up on two roads, in Aspelt and Livange, to carry out alcohol checks. Several incidents of unlawful driving were reported:

  • Four motorists of 83 were driving under the influence between 11 pm and 12.30 am on rue de Filsdorf in Aspelt;
  • Two motorists of 48 exceeded the legal drinking limit between 1.45 and 3.14 am on rue Geespelt in Livange.

No driving licences were withdrawn on the spot, the police confirmed.
