On Tuesday, members of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee received detailed briefings on Luxembourg's involvement in two EU military support missions.
One mission entails Luxembourgish soldiers assisting in the training of their Ukrainian counterparts, primarily conducted in Germany. Over the past 18 months, approximately 47,000 Ukrainian soldiers have undergone this training, with an additional 13,000 expected to do so by summer 2024. The Luxembourg army primarily deploys specialised instructors in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defence (CBRN), along with personnel engaged in demining and medical rescue training.
Additionally, Luxembourg participates in an EU mission in Mozambique. Although not permanently stationed there, individual Luxembourgish soldiers contribute once or twice a year to satellite installation maintenance checks on-site.
