The new tram section moved into its trial phase this Friday, but was greeted with rainy weather.
The test phase will determine whether the infrastructure of this new section (D) works properly, which is why the trams are currently running at a slower speed and without passengers. This is the penultimate section before the extension to Findel.
Section D is illustrated to be a major addition to the tram network, with five new stops, including two interchanges:
- Scillas
- Howald (interchange)
- Lycée Vauban
- Waassertuerm
- Stadion (interchange)
Beyond its current terminus, the tram will finally pass Howald station, one of the main transport hubs in the south of the capital. It will then pass the Cloche d'Or shopping centre and the Lycée Vauban campus, located opposite each other.
From there, it runs down Boulevard Kockelscheuer towards the water tower (located close to the offices of PwC, one of the Big Four audit firms based in Luxembourg) and on to the national stadium, which is also a transport hub with its own P+R.
The new section is scheduled to come into service in summer 2024.
