A chaotic early morning in Differdange saw police intervene in multiple violent scuffles, leading to the detention of several individuals and a crowd of nearly 100 obstructing officers over a span of three hours.

The streets of Differdange were anything but calm this Tuesday morning. At around 4am, the police intervened to break up a fight on Rue Jeannot Kremer. On arrival at the scene, the mobilised patrol discovered a large crowd surrounding an injured man lying on the ground. And during their intervention, the officers became the target of numerous insults.

They were able to make out an individual suspected of having been involved in the fight. According to reports, the man in question was "aggressive and disrespectful" when the officers tried to identify him.

Other individuals who had arrived from the next-door stadium joined the already large crowd. Some of the close to 100 people are said to have "obstructed and insulted" the police officers in action.

Tensions eventually escalated when some resorted to violence and objects were thrown at police from the upper stands of the stadium. Officers thus detained several individuals.

Yet another scuffle broke out in a nearby bar, again forcing "a large number of police officers" to intervene. The crowd finally dispersed at around 7am, after close to three hours of intervention.

The police confirm that they deployed around twenty patrols to restore public order in Differdange. Investigations are underway and two people were taken to the police station this morning. Various fines have been drawn up, including assault and battery, threats, insults to police officers, driving licence withdrawals, and a fine for public urination.
