For Our Natural Park in Hosingen, the motto of the month is "No Mow May."
Originating in the United Kingdom, the "No Mow May" initiative urges against mowing green spaces in urban areas during the month of May. Alongside nine other Luxembourgish municipalities, the nature park is aiming to raise awareness about a more nature-friendly lawn maintenance approach and to preserve green spaces.
The municipality of Wincrange wants to teach children the importance of biodiversity from an early age. Since last year, the Hachiville forest introduced a 3km long insect educational trail with nine different stations that provides an in-depth look into world of insects.
Lawns are food sources and vital habitats for many indigenous species. For instance, wild bees almost exclusively rely on native wildflowers as a food source. At the same time, they pick up the pollen from a flower and transport it to another one on their search for food, thus pollinating them and keeping the biodiversity healthy.
