Mobile customers of Tango and Proximus in Luxembourg will soon see the introduction of a new telephone number prefix. The provider will begin assigning GSM numbers starting with the digits 692.
This change marks the end of an era for the operator, which has exclusively used the 691 prefix for new mobile numbers since it started assigning numbers in 1998. The allocation of available numbers within that sequence is now nearing capacity, necessitating the new prefix.
Initially, the 692 numbers will be rolled out to business customers. Among the first to adopt the new prefix will be the Robert Schuman hospital group, which is expected to begin using 692 numbers for some of its lines in the coming days.
Tango, a Proximus brand, reports having approximately 285,000 customers in Luxembourg.
