The police successfully ended a chase involving three thieves who had used violence to steal a car.
According to police reports on Tuesday, officers intervened to intercept three suspects fleeing with a stolen car. The incident unfolded on Monday evening in the Rollingergrund neighbourhood of Luxembourg City, where the thieves, armed with a knife, forcibly seized a vehicle from a woman.
Fleeing "at high speed," the culprits raced towards Route d'Arlon, eventually merging onto the A6 motorway and then the A3. Law enforcement swiftly mobilised multiple patrols to pursue the fleeing suspects.
The chase culminated at the Gluck roundabout, where police had strategically positioned a vehicle to block the suspects' path. In a bid to evade capture, the thieves rammed the police service vehicle before their own vehicle came to a halt a short distance away. Prompt police intervention led to their arrest.
During the arrest, the suspects sustained minor injuries, prompting the despatch of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) to the scene. All three individuals were subsequently transported to the hospital. Upon inspection, one suspect was found to have exceeded the legal blood alcohol limit, while two others were found to be carrying knives. Additionally, police confiscated a small quantity of drugs from their possession.
Two of the suspects were brought before an examining magistrate on Tuesday morning, while the third, a minor, was transferred to the Security Unit (UniSec) in Dreiborn.
Individual apprehended for damaging police vehicle
In a separate incident on Monday evening, police responded to reports of an unidentified individual vandalising a police vehicle near the central railway station in Luxembourg City. The perpetrator had smashed the vehicle's windows and was swiftly apprehended by responding officers. The individual was found in possession of an emergency hammer, which was confiscated. The damage inflicted totalled four windows of the police car.
On the orders of the public prosecutor's office, the individual was arrested and presented to an examining magistrate on Tuesday morning.
