The economic crisis has taken its toll on another business in Luxembourg as Tapis Hertz is shutting the doors of its last remaining store at the Belle Etoile shopping centre in Bertrange.

After almost 80 years in business, Tapis Hertz, a family-owned business dating back to 1946, specialised in selling carpets, curtains, household linens, and more has closed its doors for good.

The company had already been forced to close its store in the City in the Grand-Rue in 2019. Now, after almost 5 years at the Belle Etoile in Bertrange, Tapis Hertz has shut the doors of its last remaining store.

The company shared in a Facebook post on Monday morning: "Consumer habits have changed. The current economic climate, the stagnating real estate sector, and the economic and social crises have gotten the best of us and do not give us any hope for a quick recovery."

The liquidation sale of the store at the Belle Etoile begins this week, and the store will be permanently closed by September. However, the company is pleased to share that its curtains and plain carpet department will be taken over by another family business, 'de Buedemlëer,' "with our name and key staff still attached, starting September 1st." The company concluded their statement by thanking "our loyal customers for joining us on our journey of almost 8 decades."
