Since 2017, hotels and campsites in Luxembourg have had the option to voluntarily participate in an official star ranking system established by the Ministry of the Economy in collaboration with sector trade associations.
This four-year ranking assesses establishments based on quality, services, facilities, and accommodation standards.
According to Minister Delegate for Tourism Eric Thill, "Currently, 74 hotels and 18 campsites are part of Luxembourg's official star ranking system for accommodation establishments."
Thill highlights the benefits of star ranking for both professionals and customers, offering a simple and clear system to aid decision-making. Using precise and objective criteria, establishments are ranked from 1 to 5 stars.
As of 2024, Luxembourg has four 5-star hotels, including three superior ones, along with 23 4-star hotels (eight superior), and 24 3-star hotels (twelve superior). Additionally, the country boasts one 5-star campsite, 13 4-star campsites, and four 3-star campsites.
The Ministry of the Economy awards the official star ranking through inspections conducted by at least two individuals, including a sworn official from the ministry and a representative from the Luxembourg Federation of Hotels, Restaurants, and Bars (HORESCA), ensuring neutrality and objectivity.
