In a major international operation, the Grand Ducal police alongside US Homeland Security's investigation unit have dismantled a network of computer servers in Luxembourg used to distribute illegal drugs and medicines, including methamphetamine and fentanyl, in the United States.

The Grand Ducal police took part in an international operation that succeeded in seizing four computer servers in Luxembourg.

The servers, which were hosting domain names, were being used to run sites offering illegal drugs and medicine in the United States. Products on offer included methamphetamine and fentanyl, as the US Embassy in Luxembourg explained in a statement on Monday.

The Luxembourg public prosecutor's office and the cyber crime police were supported in this vast operation by special agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, as well as from the Seattle Field Office and the HSI unit in Brussels.

The implicated websites have been cut off from the network and users will now only see the following message:

William S. Walker, special agent in charge of the Philadelphia HSI, explained at the end of the international collaboration that "this investigation only succeeded thanks to teams of focused investigators and prosecutors who worked hand in hand".
