Both the Czech Republic and Luxembourg seem to agree on fundamental questions around Europe's future, announced Prime Minister Luc Frieden and President Petr Pavl in a joint press conference on Friday.

During the press conference, which also marked the second day of the state visit, Luc Frieden expressed his confidence in having allies within the European Union.

He stressed the importance of closer collaboration on an economic level, especially given the Czech Republic also believes in a strong European internal market to strengthen competition. They also seem to share the values around the rule of law, and feel there needs to be more safeguarding work done against the shift to the right.

"In light of the war in Ukraine, we are hoping take more initiative together - be it in the acquisition of ammunition for Ukraine or in the area of satellites, in which Luxembourg plays a strong role. We are currently looking at how we can intensify this, but the bottom line is that we have a very close relationship with the Czech Republic - after all, both countries have been in the EU for 20 years and in NATO for 25," says Luc Frieden.

For Luc Frieden, it is clear that the state visit was about much more than just formalities. The visit appeared to be a testament to real friendship between the two countries.
