Drivers are being warned of delays and diversions on the A1 motorway this weekend, as round-the-clock works to replace expansion joints will force lane closures from Friday night until Monday morning.
The National Roads Authority has announced a full weekend closure of sections of the A1 motorway near the "Iergäertchen" roundabout to carry out essential repairs.
The work to replace expansion joints on the overpass structure will begin on Friday at 11pm and is scheduled to be completed by 4am on Monday.
During this period, traffic on the A1 in both directions will be reduced to a single lane with a speed limit of 70 km/h to ensure the safety of workers and motorists. Disruptions are expected, with several key slip roads closed:
- The exit from the A1 at the Hamm interchange for traffic coming from Gasperich
- The entry slip road to the A1 at the Hamm interchange for traffic heading toward Trier
Signed diversions will be in place. Motorists wishing to exit at Hamm will be redirected via the Senningerberg interchange, the N1, N1A, and N2A. Those trying to enter the A1 at Hamm will be directed to use the N2A, N1A, N1, and Senningerberg interchange route.
Drivers should note that preparatory work to adjust traffic management systems will begin several hours before the main operation, meaning disruptions are likely from late Friday afternoon.
