During a recent session in the Chamber of Deputies, Minister of Home Affairs Léon Gloden disclosed that since 15 January, a total of 438 individuals have been subjected to police checks in the capital city centre and the Gare neighbourhood.

This initiative forms part of the police's broader mandate to enhance public safety by intensifying their presence in key areas, targeting issues such as drug-related offences, illegal immigration, and organised begging.

The request for an interim evaluation of the mission came from Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer.

Among those checked, five individuals were unable to provide valid identification and had to be brought to a police station. Additionally, two incidents of begging were documented, one involving former Green Party co-president Christian Kmiotek. Minister Gloden reported eleven drug-related offences, leading to two arrests, and 61 individuals were expelled from public spaces. These statistics pertain to the period spanning 15 January to 22 February.

Gloden also highlighted the collaboration between the police and the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM) during a large-scale operation in the Gare neighbourhood on 7 February. He affirmed that the mission would persist, with ongoing evaluations to monitor progress.
