The victim, a Sandweiler resident, was contacted by the two suspects on the evening of 29 December. The suspects claimed they were working on behalf of Luxtrust and told the victim there was a problem with her bank cards, and that someone from Luxtrust would visit her to collect them. A police patrol intervened and searched the suspects’ vehicle, finding several stolen credit cards and cash. The two individuals were arrested by order of the public prosecutor’s office.

Following the incident, the police have issued a reminder that reputable organisations and businesses will never ask customers to share their personal data over the phone, or ask for the data to be passed on to strangers. Drink driving

Elsewhere, a number of people were caught driving whilst under the influence over the past few days.

On Thursday, police in Gasperich received reports of a stationary vehicle in the middle of the road on Rue Verte, with an apparently unconscious driver. Emergency services at the scene had to break one of the vehicle’s windows in order to assist the driver, who was conscious once again by the time the police arrived, and admitted to having fallen asleep at the wheel. A breathalyser test was carried out, returning positive results, and police issued the man with a provisional driving ban.

At 12.15am on Friday, several cars were involved in a collision on the A4 motorway near the Leudelange exit. One of the drivers was found to be over the legal alcohol limit and lost their licence as a result. Two people were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Finally, at 1.40am on Friday morning, police received reports of a driver travelling the wrong way down a one-way street and crashing into a flowerbed. A police patrol later found the driver and a second person beside the vehicle, and carried out breathalyser tests. The driver, who was over the limit, had their licence confiscated, while the second individual became aggressive towards officers and ended up spending the night in custody.
