On Friday afternoon, the new ministers received their symbolic keys to their new offices from the outgoing ministers. A highly emotional moment.

After ten years, an emotional Xavier Bettel thanked and saluted his team at the Ministry of State. Nonetheless, he was happy to hand things over to someone who upholds the same values, Bettel said.

His successor Luc Frieden praised Bettel's management of the various crises that the country faced in those ten years.

Another moving handover of power took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Jean Asselborn found it hard to conceal his disappointment, not least because of the decision to stop offering shelter to certain refugees arriving in Luxembourg. Asselborn, who has been leading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for almost 20 years, will now be succeeded by Bettel.

Sam Tanson chose to hand over the office at the Ministry of Justice to successor Elisabeth Margue in a much more pragmatic manner. The outgoing Minister pleaded for certain briefs not to be forgotten by future teams, while the new minister made clear to the new team that justice must not be politicised.
