Luxembourg successfully repatriated 17 of its citizens and residents from Israel on Thursday night in the wake of the ongoing Gaza crisis.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday confirmed that a specially chartered flight from Tel Aviv brought the 17 Luxembourg nationals and residents back to the Grand Duchy after many regular flights from Israel were cancelled.
The operation was carried out in close coordination between the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, its consular assistance, the Directorate of Defence, the Luxembourg Army, and Dutch authorities, including the Dutch Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence.
The repatriation flight, conducted using an A330 MRTT multi-role aircraft, took off on Thursday evening, destined for Eindhoven in the Netherlands. At around 2am, the team from the Luxembourg embassy in the Netherlands was present to welcome the returning Luxembourg nationals and residents.
These individuals, who had been in continuous contact with consular assistance from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs since the onset of the crisis, were subsequently transported by bus to Luxembourg. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs reported that a total of 52 citizens and residents have been able to leave Israel since Saturday.
