Minister of Internal Security Henri Kox on Thursday informed the press about police recruitment efforts of the past years as well as future reinforcement targets in a briefing at the Findel police academy. “The recruitment of new police officers was and remains the alpha and omega of past years’ reforms and is simultaneously the biggest challenge”, underlined the Minister on Thursday morning.

According to government figures, 780 additional personnel have started working for the Grand Ducal police since 2020. The average rate of women recruited over those three years was 25%, which the Greens politician described as a reflection of society.

Apart from overall recruitment efforts, Minister Kox also stressed that training programmes have been adapted and modernised in the past years. He also noted that the police academy has been further expanded and that new projects are being planned: “I think a shooting range is also an option in that regard. The site has to be perpetuated for the next years and I think investments have to continue.”

Police spokesman Alain Engelhardt elaborated that officers’ everyday work life has been modernised with a clear goal in mind, increasing the efficiency with which they can fulfill their tasks. As all these efforts should be continued in the future, an additional 160 people are to be recruited over the coming years, stated officials.
