
This upward trend in the number of jobseekers is observed across various job vacancy durations, with the exception of those registered for over 12 months. Notably, individuals with higher education degrees and young adults under 30 years old are witnessing the most significant rise in unemployment figures.
In terms of specific occupations, notable increases have been seen in secretarial roles, culinary production and restaurant services, accountancy and management, as well as structural and finishing work.
The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC), stands at 5.3%, showing a slight decrease compared to August 2021 when it exceeded 5.5%.
In addition, the number of new jobseeker registrations is on the rise, with 2,509 residents enrolling with ADEM in August 2023. This represents an increase of 154 people, equating to a 6.5% rise compared to August 2022.
The data also reveals that the number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits has surged by 1,717 individuals, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 24.5%, reaching a total of 8,722. Concurrently, the count of individuals benefiting from employment measures has decreased, with 3,959 participants, indicating a reduction of 101 individuals or 2.5% compared to August 2022.
In August 2023, employers reported 3,164 job vacancies to ADEM, reflecting a decline of 21.6% compared to August 2022. This drop is primarily concentrated in sectors such as information and communication, financial and insurance activities, professional, scientific, and technical activities, and administrative and support services, which also encompasses temporary employment agencies.
As of 31 August 2023, the total number of job openings stood at 9,088, experiencing a year-on-year decrease of 32.5%.
