Following the floods which swept across Luxembourg in July 2021, the municipalities and municipal syndicates declared damages of over 30 million euros, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
In response to a parliamentary question submitted by the CSV, Minister Taina Bofferding said around 4.6 million euros in damages had already been paid out.
The municipality of Echternach, which suffered more than most as a result of the floods, accounts for over two-thirds of the total amount. Excluding the Echternach sum, around 44% of the requested indemnities have already been paid to the relevant entities, according to the minister's data. 18 cases are still considered to be incomplete.
This year's budget includes a further 5 million euros to be paid out for flood damage
In order to be better prepared for future disasters, municipalities may request financial support from the Water Fund.
