The traces found on the carcass were analysed and genetic testing confirmed that the predator responsible for the attack was indeed a wolf, with a 100% match.
This particular wolf belongs to a group known to inhabit the territory mainly between the centre of Poland and Lower Saxony. The wolves previously detected in Niederanven in 2020 and Troine this year also hail from the same region, making this the second wolf identified in 2023.
A separate incident involving the killing of a sheep in Hoffelt a few weeks ago was attributed to a dog, not a wolf, according to the analysis.
In light of these findings, the public is encouraged to report any potential wolf sightings or indications to the Nature and Forest Agency via email at wolf@anf.etat.lu.
